EFN's "raison d'etre" is to celebrate, educate and promote early career filmmakers testing out fresh ideas! In September 2021, we threw our trademark Awards Night event to celebrate just that. It was our first hybrid online and in-person event, we were able to platform filmmakers across borders. 🔗 The wonderful Georgia Madden, Christopher Pool and Zoe Hunter Gordon joined us live at Genesis Cinema, whereas Yiru Chen, Mila Araoz and Sari Katharyn joined us on screen to discuss their works. 💌 All those talented filmmakers are already making waves! Did you know it’s D/deaf Awareness Week? It’s quite evident that film and television representation on deafness is still massively lacking. There’s been some improvement - notably this year’s Oscar’s winner Troy Kotsur being the first Deaf person to win an Acting Academy Award! - but we need more D/deaf filmmakers and stars on both sides of the camera. An Italian miracle might be waiting just around the corner... EFN screened Francesco Gabriele's brilliant 'Italian Miracle' comedy back in our 2016 "Caught in the Act" edition 💥 The short film played at over 40 festivals worldwide and went on to be nominated for Best Comedy and Best International Short at the LA-Shorts Fest. Abel Rubinstein's "Dungarees" was screened at EFN's True Grit edition in 2020. The short follows transgender Blake and cisgender Cane hanging out, playing video games and grappling with their insecurities. The short went on to be selected by over 20 film festivals across the world, including @britishfilminstitute Flare and @fringefilmfest ! It was also nominated for Best British Short at Iris Prize with Film4. We're so proud to have been a part of platforming such incredible filmmaking talent!
